Nannyberry is a tall shrub that grows on moist or mesic soil, often at the margins of wetlands or woods. It grows on a variety of soils except continually wet, droughty, or sterile soil. Spreads gradually from a central clump forming nicely shaped thickets. Sweet, edible, blue-black fruits.
